Police Seek Two Men After Officers Injured and Vehicles Damaged

Detectives are appealing for information following serious disorder during a protest in Epping last week, which left eight police officers injured and multiple police vehicles damaged.

The violence erupted on Thursday 17 July during a demonstration outside the Bell Hotel, which had begun peacefully but later descended into projectile throwing, violent clashes, and criminal damage.


Police Appeal: Two Men Sought

Essex Police have released details of two men they are urgently seeking to speak with in connection with the incident:

  • Martin Peagram, 33
    • Linked to: Stansted
    • Description: 6ft tall, slim build, short brown hair, facial stubble
  • Philip Curson, 52
    • No fixed address
    • Description: 5ft 8ins, stocky build, short brown hair
    • Distinguishing features: Full tattoo sleeves on both arms, tattoos on the front of his neck

“These individuals may hold vital information and we are appealing to anyone who knows their whereabouts to contact us immediately,” police said.


Update on Ongoing Investigation

A 37-year-old man from Epping was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody for questioning.

Police also confirmed that they are no longer looking to speak to 37-year-old Shaun Thompson in relation to the incident.


Community Engagement

Essex Police have invited public comment and shared an update on their Facebook page, stating:

“We’re leaving comments enabled on this post for a 24-hour period as we want to hear what our communities have to say.
However, we will not tolerate any unlawful content. Those who breach this will be banned, and details passed to investigators.”
