Police Launch Urgent Appeal After Daylight Dog Attack
Shock as a four-year-old girl was bitten by a massive XL Bully dog while out for a stroll on a busy river footpath in broad daylight. The terrifying attack took place between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday, 19 July, along the River Irwell footpath in Kersal, Salford.
Miraculously, the girl escaped serious injury, but police warn the incident could have ended in tragedy.
Witnesses Urgently Sought as Police Hunt Dog and Owner
“We are appealing for information following an incident which saw an XL Bully bite a four-year-old child on the footpath of the River Irwell in Kersal between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday, 19 July 2025. Thankfully no serious injuries were sustained, but this was a distressing incident, and we need to trace the dog and its owner.”

Officers are still unclear what sparked the attack or whether the dog’s owner was present at the time.
