A brave mum lost her life protecting her five-year-old daughter from a falling tree branch in Witton Country Park. Madia Kauser, 32, was out walking with her husband, Wasim Khan, 33, and their two kids on Monday evening when disaster struck.
Witnesses say Madia shoved her daughter’s pushchair out of the path just seconds before a massive branch crashed down. The selfless act saved the little girl, who escaped unharmed.
Mother’s Heroic Last Moments
Despite her husband’s desperate attempts to help, Madia was pronounced dead at the scene. Their nine-year-old son, walking just ahead with his dad, witnessed the tragic moment.
Relatives described Madia as a “loving, doting mother” who adored her family. The community is in shock at the heartbreaking loss.
Park Safety Under Spotlight
Denise Park, chief executive of Witton Country Park, said:
“Witton Park is a much-loved community space, and the safety of everyone who visits is of the utmost importance to us.”
Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be sent to the coroner.
Calls for Urgent Tree Inspections
Local councillor Paul Marrow highlighted worrying signs of ash dieback disease and dead trees in the park. He urged for “regular, thorough inspections” to prevent further incidents.
Witnesses reported calm weather and no strong winds when the branch fell.
Funeral Plans and Community Mourning
Madia’s funeral is expected to follow Muslim traditions once the coroner releases her body. Family members are travelling from across the country to pay their respects.
