Man Seriously Injured After Shocking Van Crash in South End

Police have launched a major probe after a man suffered serious injuries in a nasty road traffic collision in South End on Saturday afternoon (16 August).

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 4.10pm following reports of a crash involving a van and a 40-year-old male pedestrian.

Victim Left with Potentially Life-Changing Injuries

The victim was treated at the scene before being airlifted to a London major trauma centre, where he remains in a critical condition with potentially life-changing injuries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 16:07 to reports of a road traffic collision on South End, croydon/" title="Croydon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Croydon. We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an Advanced Paramedic, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance. Our crews treated a person at the scene, before taking them to a London major trauma centre.”

Assault Suspected Before Collision

The Metropolitan Police revealed that the man might have been assaulted before the incident, which possibly led to him falling into the van’s path.

The van driver has been spoken to but has not been arrested.

Road Closures Cause Chaos

Police taped off the scene, causing major road closures and traffic chaos across South Croydon. Bus routes were also diverted well into the evening.

Detectives are urging witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch immediately.

A Met Police spokesperson said:

“Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5026/16Aug.”
