Man Charged Over Suspicious Device in Borehamwood
Detectives have charged a man with attempted murder and explosives offences after a suspicious object was found in Borehamwood.
Police Called to Cowley Hill
Officers were called on Saturday, 16 August, following reports of a suspicious object at a property in the Cowley Hill area.
Serious Charges for Robert Kovacs
On Thursday, 21 August, 38-year-old Robert Kovacs from Tenby Road, Edgware, was charged with:
- Attempted murder
- Making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or damage property
- Doing an act with intent to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or injure property
Kovacs appeared in court and was remanded in custody. His next hearing is set for Monday, 8 September, at St Albans Magistrates’ Court.
Second Arrest and Bail for Woman
A 38-year-old woman from Borehamwood was also arrested in connection with the incident. She has since been released on bail with strict conditions while investigations continue.
Police Confirm No Wider Threat
Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said:
“I understand this incident has caused concern locally. We believe it is isolated, involving known parties, and there is no intelligence suggesting a wider threat to the public.
We appeal to anyone with information about suspicious activity in Cowley Hill between Friday 15 August and Saturday 16 August to come forward.”
