Shropshire Firefighters Rescue Horse Trapped in Muddy Pond
Firefighters in Shropshire launched a dramatic specialist animal rescue this morning after a horse got stuck in thick mud.
Caramel, the 25-Year-Old Mare, Trapped at Dry Pond
At 8:14am on Sunday 24th August 2025, crews were called to save Caramel, a 25-year-old mare, stuck fast at the edge of a dried-up pond.
Teams from Amber Watch, White Watch Wellington, and Telford Central rushed to the scene with specialist gear to free the trapped animal.
High-Tech Rescue: Crane and Rescue Strops Save the Day
Firefighters used rescue strops and a HIAB crane mounted on the Rescue Tender to carefully lift Caramel from the mud to solid ground.
A vet was on-site throughout the operation, monitoring Caramel’s condition to ensure she stayed safe.
Happy Ending as Caramel Walks Free
Once freed, Caramel stood unaided and was gently led back to her field.
“Thanks to the teamwork and use of specialist equipment, Caramel was safely recovered. We’re pleased to report she is now back on her feet and recovering well.” – Spokesperson, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service
Danger Lurks After Hot, Dry Spell
The Fire Service warned that the recent hot and dry weather caused the pond to dry up, leaving dangerous patches of deep mud that can easily trap animals.
