Woman Jailed for Bombarding 999 with Nearly 40 Nuisance Calls in Four Hours

Serial Nuisance Caller Locked Up

A woman has been jailed after bombarding police with dozens of nuisance 999 calls in just hours. Jelana Bobrova, 54, from Oaklands Estate SW4, was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison for breaking a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in 2019.

39 Calls in Four Hours – Police Had Enough

On Sunday, 16 February, Bobrova made a staggering 39 calls to the police within four hours. Each call saw her rambling and daring officers to arrest her. This blatant defiance finally led to her arrest on 23 February for breaching the order that forbade her from making false calls.

Costing the Met Over £10,000

Over three years, Bobrova’s phone calls tallied 1,278, costing the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) more than £10,000. Police Sergeant Terry Collman slammed the behaviour, saying:

“Nuisance calls to police are absolutely not acceptable, they are certainly not funny and are a huge waste of time and money. These calls prevent people who are in a genuine emergency from speaking to police and receiving help when they most need it.”

He revealed the scale of the problem:

  • The MPS handles over 4.5 million calls annually.
  • In 2019, 175,000 calls were recorded as misuse, costing the Met more than £1.3m.

“I hope the sentence given to Bobrova will send a message to anyone who thinks this immature behaviour is a form of entertainment,” added Sgt Collman.

Denial Falls Flat at Court

Bobrova claimed a technical glitch caused the calls, but the court was unimpressed. She was sentenced the day after her arrest at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.
