Freeze Alert! Kent Braces for Bitter Cold and Snow
Kent is on edge as a biting cold snap hits, with the Met Office issuing a level two cold weather alert. From Friday evening through Monday afternoon, there’s a 60% chance of severe frost and even some snow in parts of the county.
Vulnerable Families Urged to Stay Safe
The NHS and local councils are ramping up support for the elderly and those with long-term health issues. These groups face the highest risk from freezing temperatures—especially with Covid-19 still lurking in the community.
“Having a family member, friend or neighbour who can help out can be vital in cold weather,” says Kent Council’s Clair Bell. “Please help to protect Kent – be ready to rally round, to take time to care for yourself, your family and others.”
Top Tips to Combat the Cold
- Wear several thin layers instead of one thick coat
- Keep your home heated between 18-21°C
- Enjoy regular hot meals and drinks to stay warm
- Order repeat prescriptions early and stock up on medicines
- Get your flu jab if eligible—free for seniors, pregnant women, children, and more
Allison Duggal, Interim Director for Public Health, warns: “Even short bursts in the cold can raise the risk of strokes and heart attacks.”
Travel with Caution – Stay Home If You Can
- Wear shoes with slip-resistant soles
- Check weather forecasts and traffic updates at www.kenttraffic.info
- Avoid unnecessary trips during snow and ice
- Only call 999 or head to A&E in emergencies

Prepare now and keep your loved ones safe. Kent’s freezing spell is no joke—wrap up and look out for each other!
