Ten fire engines sent to woodland blaze near Horsham

Firefighters are currently tackling a large wildfire involving around 10 hectares of woodland and fields at Saxton Farm, Nuthurst Road, Monks Gate.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (WSFRS) confirmed that 10 fire engines and a water carrier have been sent to the scene to bring the blaze under control.

Residents living nearby are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke drifting across the area.

A spokesperson for WSFRS said:

“We are at the scene of a large wildfire involving 10 hectares of woodland and fields at Saxton Farm, Nuthurst Road, Monks Gate. Ten fire engines and a water carrier are in attendance. If you live nearby please keep your doors and windows closed. Please avoid the area to allow firefighters to work safely.”

Nuthurst Road and surrounding routes are expected to be busy as emergency services continue to work. Members of the public are urged to avoid the area to ensure firefighters can operate without disruption.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
