M23 Chaos: Motorists Hit with Hour-Long Delays After Serious Police Incident
Southbound M23 Shut Amid Police Drama
Drivers on the M23 are facing major hold-ups this morning. The southbound carriageway is shut between junction 8 (M25) and junction 9 (Gatwick Airport) due to a “serious police incident,” according to traffic analysts Inrix.
National Highways confirmed the southbound lanes remain closed while northbound traffic has been allowed through. Surrey Police are on scene managing the situation.
Hour-Long Queues and Frustration Mount
Motorists report delays of around 60 minutes. One trapped driver told social media: “Been here since around 6.20am. Police told us to stay in our vehicles while they try to open lane 4 on the northbound side.”
Another passenger seethed, “I have a flight at 11:25, this is unacceptable.”
Tube Strikes Add to Road Woes
The trouble on the M23 is rippling outwards. The M25 and roads into Central London and Wales are heavily congested, worsened by Tube strikes that have shut down all lines out of London.
