Michael Patrick Afonso Peixoto, 27, was fatally stabbed in a brutal attack in Thornton Heath on Tuesday night.
Man Murdered in Shocking Nighttime Stabbing
The tragic assault happened around 10:30pm on 19 December in Mayfield Crescent. Michael was attacked by a group of men before being stabbed to death.
After the horrific assault, the suspects escaped in Michael’s own car – a grey Vauxhall Grand X Elite, registration DL19LVS – which remains missing.
Police Launch Full Investigation
Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the case. He addressed local fears, saying:
“This was a violent attack which has caused devastation to Michael’s family.”
“I understand residents will be concerned, especially since this happened on a residential street.”
“I want to reassure people living near Mayfield Crescent: this appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.”
Heightened Police Presence & Call for Witnesses
DI Thorpe thanked locals for their patience as detectives work the case. He added:
“You’ll notice more police around the area. If you have any information or concerns, please speak to officers on the scene.”
