The blaze started at around 8:15am on Tuesday, 30th September, forcing authorities to shut Beckenham High Street in both directions near The Drive. The closure has sparked chaos for locals and commuters trying to get through the area.
Bus Routes Thrown Into Chaos – Avoid Beckenham High Street
The fire has disrupted key bus services across the area. Routes 54, 227, 352, and 354 have all been forced to take detours:
- 54: Diverted from War Memorial via Rectory Road and High Street, then reversing the same way back.
- 227: Rerouted from War Memorial via Rectory Road, High Street, and Bromley Road, with the route reversed on return.
- 352: Now running from Village Way through High Street, Rectory Road, and Blackeney Road, before reversing back.
- 354: Operating from Beckenham Road via Rectory Road only.
Commuters are urged to steer clear of Beckenham High Street and follow official diversion signs. Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters are battling the blaze. Authorities warn residents to keep windows and doors closed to avoid inhaling smoke.
