92-Year-Old Pensioner Duped in Watch Scam at Farlington Sainsbury’s
A 92-year-old pensioner was conned out of £70 in a bold scam at the Sainsbury’s car park in Farlington.
Scammer Tricks Pensioner with Diesel Ruse
The incident happened between 11.30am and midday on Tuesday, February 16. The victim was sitting in his car when a younger man approached, claiming he needed cash to buy diesel. The pensioner was persuaded to leave his vehicle and get into the man’s car.
Cash Withdrawn and Fake Watches Offered
Once inside, the scammer took money from the victim’s wallet and drove him to the supermarket cash machine. The pensioner withdrew more cash, handing over a total of £70. The trickster then gave him six boxes of watches, insisting their value was more than the cash taken.
Police Hunt Smartly Dressed Scammer with Spanish Accent
The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall, with a round face and short hair. He spoke with a Spanish accent, was clean-shaven, and smartly dressed.
PC Hayley McMillan warned: “If a stranger asks for money or offers to drive you to a cash machine, refuse. If they persist, go to the nearest shop for help and call the police.”
