Gunman Charged After Armed Robbery Spree on M3 Motorway
A 23-year-old man faces court over a string of brazen robberies in Christchurch following a terrifying armed shake-down on the M3 motorway.
Three Robberies in One Hour
Police were called at 5.30pm on Saturday 18 March 2017 after a gun-wielding man stormed into the Co-Op Food store on Fairmile Road. He grabbed some food without making threats or injuring anyone, then fled in a white Ford Fiesta.
The mayhem didn’t stop there. The same man drove to the next-door Fairmile Service Station, where he pulled the stunt again — this time stealing wine and cigarettes at gunpoint.
Violence and Car Crash Follow
Minutes later, the suspect targeted the Fairmile Convenience Store, stealing more food and cigarettes. During the spree, a man and a woman were assaulted.
As the gunman sped off in his Fiesta, he crashed into another vehicle, escalating the chaos further.
Suspect Charged and Court Date Set
The man, arrested in connection with the string of crimes, was charged on Monday 20 March with robbery, assault, firearm possession without a certificate, theft, and possession of cannabis.
He is due before Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21 March 2017.
