Huge Illegal Party in Hackney Crushed by Police
Police swooped on an illegal rave at 3am on Sunday, 7 February, after locals in Hackney reported a noisy gathering near shipping containers on Trowbridge Road.
More than 30 partygoers were crammed around two stacked shipping containers near Trowbridge Gardens, blasting loud music in blatant breach of Covid rules.
Officers Shut Down Dangerous Gathering
Two officers arrived on scene and immediately told the crowd to disperse. With numbers so large, no arrests could be made, but the illegal event was shut down.
The police launched an investigation to find the organiser behind the risky, rule-breaking bash.
Organiser Faces £10,000 Fine
Thanks to local officers’ hard work, the culprit was tracked down and, on 2 March, reported for a potential £10,000 fine.
“Once again, officers put themselves at risk to deal with inconsiderate people packed into a confined and dangerous space,” said Chief Inspector Pete Shaw of Hackney and Tower Hamlets policing.
“We proved that actions have consequences. This hefty fine shows we won’t tolerate flagrant breaches of rules designed to keep everyone safe.
“If you organise or host illegal events, we will find you and hit you with large fines. It’s frustrating that nearly a year into the pandemic, some still act so selfishly, ignoring the huge human cost of this virus.”
