Massive Gas Explosion Levels Dance Studio in New Ferry, Birkenhead

Bang Rocks Merseyside: Buildings Collapse, Houses Shake

A huge gas explosion ripped through a dance studio and neighbouring shops in New Ferry, Birkenhead, just after 9pm on Saturday. The blast flattened several two-storey buildings, leaving a massive plume of smoke visible across Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

Residents reported feeling the earth shake as the “huge bang” echoed across Merseyside, from Birkenhead to Liverpool city centre and Sefton Park. Locals say windows were shattered and some homes trembled from the force of the blast.

Emergency Services Swarm Scene – No Injuries Confirmed Yet

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service confirmed multiple buildings collapsed within a 40 by 50-metre radius at the junction of Boundary Road and Bebington Road. The explosion is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak at a row of shops, including what is thought to be a Chinese takeaway.

Four fire engines and a special rescue team rushed to the scene, joined by police and ambulance crews. Thankfully, there are no official reports of injuries, although one pub worker suffered a minor cut after a window blew in. Staff from the nearby Chinese restaurant hurried to provide first aid supplies.

Arrowe Park Hospital staff are on standby and volunteering to help with any casualties.

Train Services Halted, Social Media Buzzes with Shock

Local train services have been suspended while emergency operations continue. Merseyrail is running a replacement bus service between Hooton and Rock Ferry, with trains running only as far as Hooton.

Hundreds took to social media, describing their homes shaking and questioning what had exploded. One pub worker said, “One of the windows blew right through. It was terrifying.”

Dance Studio Owner Left ‘Lost for Words’

“I’m lost for words,” the dance school owner said. “I started complete works when it first opened. To see it grow from 20 kids to hundreds was incredible. Hoping everyone is safe.”

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed as emergency teams continue their search. Stay tuned for updates on this shocking New Ferry blast.
