Walker Plunges 25 Metres Down Cornish Mineshaft – Dramatic Airlift Rescue

A man in his fifties was dramatically rescued and airlifted to hospital after falling 25 metres down a disused mineshaft near St Just on the Cornish coast path.

Emergency Services Rush to Complex Rescue

Just after 1:15pm today, Devon and Cornwall Police called in UK Coastguard teams following a 999 call reporting a serious fall near Cape Cornwall, St Just.

Lands End and Penzance Coastguard Rescue Teams, alongside the Newquay-based Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, scrambled to the scene. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service, and Cornwall Search and Rescue Service also launched a full-scale response.

Rope Rescue Battle Down Dangerous Disused Shaft

The victim fell into a deep, disused mine shaft, complicating the rescue. Emergency crews are currently using specialist rope rescue techniques to reach and extract the injured walker.
