Major Search Launched for Missing Fisherman off Applecross Coast
A huge Coastguard search is underway after a fishing boat was spotted stranded on rocks off the Applecross coast, but its lone sailor is missing.
Fishing Vessel Found Abandoned on Rocks
Just after 2.30pm today (20 November), HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public reporting a fishing boat stuck on rocks south of Applecross with its engine still running.
When rescue teams arrived, the vessel was empty. No sign of the fisherman was found on board.
Full-Scale Rescue Operation Underway
The alarm triggered an immediate search involving Applecross Coastguard Rescue Teams, the Kyle and Portree Lifeboats, and the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based in Stornoway.
Nearby fishing boats quickly joined in the hunt after the Coastguard issued a Mayday relay broadcast.
Community and Coastguard Rally for Missing Sailor
The search continues as efforts intensify to find the missing fisherman believed to have gone overboard. More updates to follow.
