Murder Probe Launched After Man Kicked to Death in Trafalgar Square
A brutal assault in Trafalgar Square has ended in tragedy. Desmond O’Beirne, 51, from Westminster, died from a head injury six months after being viciously attacked by two men outside the National Gallery.
Brutal Attack in Central London
The shocking assault happened around 12:25am on Saturday, 3rd June 2017. Two men launched a savage attack on Desmond outside the iconic landmark. London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene and took him to hospital, but he never regained consciousness and passed away on Wednesday, 20th December 2017.
Suspects Still on the Loose
Police have released CCTV images of the two suspects but they remain unidentified. They are urging anyone with information to come forward:
- Suspect 1: Top knot hairstyle, full beard, red t-shirt, dark trousers, light-coloured shoes. Seen punching Desmond from behind.
- Suspect 2: Black jacket with white emblem on right shoulder and white writing/picture on the back, white top underneath, dark trousers, dark shoes with white soles. Kicked Desmond after he collapsed.
Police Plea for Help
“These two men will have spoken to friends and partners and possibly boasted about their mindless attack. I want you to call us with their names,” said Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh. “Desmond never regained consciousness after the brutal attack. It is vital we bring his attackers to justice.”
Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or may have captured it on camera.
