Maidstone Paedophile Jailed for 10 Years After Attacking Two Vulnerable Kids

A man linked to Maidstone has been locked up for a decade after sexually abusing two young children. Charles Stevens, 72, formerly of Hawkers Cove, Padstow, was handed a 10-year prison sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 18 May 2018.

Historic Abuse Spanning Over a Decade

The vile offences took place between 1975 and 1986. Stevens was arrested on 17 March 2017 after a brave woman reported him to kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police. Later that year, a second victim also came forward, leading to charges for non-recent child sex offences.

Guilty After Eight-Day Trial

Despite denying all charges, Stevens was found guilty by a jury after an eight-day trial. Along with his prison term, he faces an extended 10-year licence period once released and has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Victims Commended for Courage

“Stevens repeatedly abused two vulnerable young children who have been traumatised for many years,” said Detective Constable Samuel Trevena. “I would particularly like to commend the victims for their bravery in coming forwards to report their ordeal and assisting the investigation. I hope the conclusion of this case and the sentence passed may provide some closure for them.”
