Isle of Wight Police Launch ‘Chav Patrol’ to Crack Down on Newport Bus Station Trouble

Undercover cops on pushbikes and motorbikes, backed by foot patrols, have rolled out a bold new operation to clear Newport Bus Station and Church Litten of anti-social behaviour. Dubbed ‘Operation Varney’, the force hopes to send a clear message to troublemakers causing havoc in public spaces.

Youths Run Riot Despite Police Presence

Yet, despite the crackdown, chaos continues. Just at lunchtime today, a large gang of youths swarmed the area, playing football and recklessly throwing balls. One narrowly missed an elderly couple soaking up the sunshine, much to the amusement of onlookers.

Residents Demand Action as Violence Erupts

Locals are fed up and begging officers to clamp down on the disruptive teens and adults. The situation escalated yesterday when a violent brawl involving pupils from Medina College broke out outside Marks & Spencer’s. One teen was attacked by a large group but managed to flee to St Thomas Square, prompting a swift police response.

Police Warn: Anti-Social Behaviour Won’t Be Tolerated

Inspector Rob Abel said: “We are working with the Community Safety Partnership to patrol known trouble spots in Newport. The message to those causing nuisance is simple – we will take action. This could lead to a criminal record, impacting your job prospects, credit, and even your ability to travel abroad, including to the US.”

“We have several tools to tackle anti-social behaviour, including dispersal orders, fixed penalty notices, acceptable behaviour contracts, and criminal behaviour orders.”

With police stepping up patrols and issuing tough warnings, the island is watching closely to see if ‘Operation Varney’ can finally bring peace back to Newport’s troubled hotspots.
