Man jailed after homemade explosives and weapons found in his home

A man has been jailed after officers found homemade explosives and weapons in his home. Liam Pinnock, 39 of Surr Street, Islington was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment at Blackfriars Crown Court on Monday, 20 August after pleading guilty on Wednesday, 20 June, to one count of making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose, and one count of attempting to make an explosive for an unlawful purpose. Officers executed a search warrant at Pinnock’s address on Wednesday, 3 January. Whilst searching the premises, a large number of homemade weapons, explosives and body armour were seized at the address. Pinnock was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing prohibited weapons and explosive materials and charged on 6 January. Detective Sergeant Dan Byron from the Met’s Central North Safeguarding Unit said: “Pinnock is a dangerous individual who I believed, if not apprehended, would have inflicted serious harm on either himself or those around him. A large number of zombie knives, axes and machetes, along with two crudely made explosive devices, have been removed from circulation in the Capital. Weapons such as these are made for one purpose; had they been used as intended, they would have caused a significant amount of harm on the streets of London. The conviction of Pinnock demonstrates police commitment to removing dangerous individuals, and their weapons, from the local community and bringing them to justice for such offences.” +The investigation was conducted by local detectives from the Central North Command Unit, Pinnock was not arrested under terrorism.
