Ex-Thames Valley Cop Axed for Drug Use in Shocking Misconduct Case
A former Thames Valley Police officer has been found guilty of gross misconduct after cocaine was detected in his hair samples. The public hearing, held at Thames Valley Police HQ in Kidlington on Monday, revealed explosive details that rocked the force.
PC Heyns Caught Red-Handed
PC Heyns supplied two hair samples on 25 June 2018 as part of a transfer application to another police force. Both tested positive for cocaine, sparking a major investigation into his conduct. The allegations detailed breaches in honesty, integrity, and discreditable conduct from January to June 2018.
More Than a Fitness for Duty Issue
While the panel cleared him of any fitness for duty violations, they slammed Heyns for failing standards of honesty and integrity. The hearing, chaired by legal expert William Hansen, made it clear that PC Heyns let down both the public and his colleagues.
Forced Out Before the Axe Fell
Heyns resigned with immediate effect on 10 February 2019, just before the verdict. Deputy Chief Constable John Campbell was blunt:
“Had he not quit, PC Heyns’ discreditable conduct – taking illegal drugs – would have led to immediate dismissal.”
This case sends a stark warning: police officers must uphold the highest standards or face severe consequences.
