Kent’s Ruthless Gun Runner Dion Williams Jailed for Ten Years

Dion Williams, 34, a cold and calculating criminal from Broadstairs, Kent, was handed a hefty ten-year sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 10 May. The professional crook was convicted of conspiring to transfer a banned Colt .455 pistol and 49 rounds of illegal ammo after a two-week trial.

High-Stakes Guns Bust on the M2

In a daring intelligence-led sting by the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command, Williams was caught red-handed as officers stopped two vehicles on the M2 near Maidstone heading back to London. Armed police swooped, seizing the deadly Colt pistol and compatible ammunition. Forensic teams quickly linked Williams to the crime, but he had fled the UK.

Williams was arrested in Kent on 5 September 2018 shortly after his return. Despite pleading not guilty initially, the jury saw through his act, convicting him on all charges the following day.

A Troubled History of Crime

Judge HHJ Williams dubbed him a “professional criminal,” describing the defendant as “ruthless and highly manipulative.” Court heard Williams’ violent track record stretches back to 2008, when he helped break a man out of Barking Magistrates’ custody and later took part in an armed robbery in Dorset.

He was still on licence for those crimes when he pulled off the recent firearm offences. Williams will start serving his ten-year term once his current licence expires in August 2020.

Met Police Crack Down on Gang Guns

“This complex probe was powered by crucial intelligence,” said Detective Inspector Glenn Butler from the Met’s Trident Command. “We have taken a deadly weapon off the streets — destined for London’s criminal underworld.

“Tackling violent crime remains a top priority. Our teams work relentlessly to track offenders, seize arms, bring crooks to justice, and protect our communities.

“But the police can’t win alone. We urge the public to come forward with info about firearms, knives, or organised gang activity. You could save lives. Anonymity is assured via Crimestoppers.”

Justice Served: More Cops Nabbed

Williams isn’t alone. Three other men tied to this gun-running ring were locked up for a combined 27 years back in January 2018, following the early stages of this high-profile operation.
