Suspicious Blaze Sparks Joint Probe at Orpington Home

A major investigation is underway after a suspicious fire ripped through a house on Cray Avenue, Orpington, late Monday night.

Fire Erupts Late on Cray Avenue

Emergency services were called just after 11.30pm on Monday when flames engulfed a property. Firefighters from Orpington and Sidcup rushed to the scene, with four fire engines and 25 crew battling the blaze.

The fire seriously damaged parts of the ground floor, the first floor, and the stairs, leaving the inside charred and blackened. Fire investigators clad in white suits have since combed the wreckage, searching for signs of accelerants.

Police Lock Down Scene as Investigation Gets Serious

Police have cordoned off Cray Avenue, stationing plainclothes officers and a lone guard at the site. A Met Police spokesman confirmed officers are working closely with the London Fire Brigade but would not confirm if there were any fatalities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation amid growing suspicions of foul play. Specialist devices are being used to detect any flammable liquids that may have fuelled the rapid fire spread up the stairs.

Victims Taken to Hospital as Area Remains Sealed Off

Several occupants of the house were rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Authorities have withheld details about the number and condition of those injured.

In the meantime, Cray Avenue remains closed to manage the ongoing probe and ensure public safety.

London Fire Brigade Statement:
