Tragedy struck Bow after a crane toppled into a home and building site, killing an elderly woman and leaving a construction worker fighting for life.
Horror Collapse in Residential Area
Emergency teams raced to Gale 1, Bow, E3, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 8 July, after reports of a crane crash.
Police and London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived to find a devastating scene. An elderly woman, believed to be in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the site.
Specialist firefighters spent the day carefully recovering her body. Her family have been informed, with formal identification and a post-mortem planned.
Worker Critical, Others Injured
A construction worker caught in the collapse remains in critical condition in hospital.
Several other individuals suffered injuries, though none life-threatening.
Multi-Agency Probe Underway
A joint investigation is now underway involving the Met’s Central East Command Unit, Specialist Crime Team, the Health and Safety Executive, and the London Fire Brigade.
The local council is also involved, offering support to those affected.
The scene will stay cordoned off for several days as inquiries continue. No arrests have been made yet as evidence is gathered.
