One Week On From Dean Edwards’ Fatal Shooting – Police Urge Locals Near Betts Park to Speak Up
It’s been a week since Dean Edwards was fatally shot in Penge, and detectives are pleading with anyone living near Betts Park or the Croydon Road area to come forward with what they know.
Key Witnesses Needed From Night of Tragedy
Officers canvassed the neighbourhood around Croydon Road and Tremaine Road last Saturday, 18 July, hoping to find anyone who saw or heard anything between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Detectives are especially keen to hear from people who were in the area between 12:15am and 1am on 12 July—the brutal night Dean was shot.
Innocent Man Gunned Down While Walking Home
Dean was simply walking through Betts Park on his way home after meeting friends for drinks. As he neared the Croydon Road exit, he was shot in the back of the head. Emergency services were called at around 2:20am and found Dean collapsed in the road. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives Plead for Help, Offer Anonymity
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran said: “We’re working round the clock to piece together what happened to Dean — an innocent family man loved in the community. We believe he was not involved in any criminal activity, making this act of violence all the more incomprehensible.
“Officers have been knocking on doors all week and checking CCTV, but we need the public’s help. If you heard or saw anything suspicious on that night — maybe something that made you uneasy — please come forward. Your information could be the missing piece we need.
“Dean’s family, devastated by their loss, deserve answers and justice. We will not rest until we find those responsible.”
