Mother and Son Found Dead in Tower Hamlets: Inquest Set for December
An inquest has been arranged after the tragic deaths of a woman and her young son in Tower Hamlets.
Shock Discovery at Isle of Dogs Home
At around 3.20am on Thursday, 13 August, police were called to a property in Lockesfield Place, E14, following welfare concerns. Officers forced entry and found 35-year-old Yulia Gokcedag and her 7-year-old son Timur unresponsive.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A Met Police Specialist Crime Command investigation was launched immediately.
Cause of Death Confirmed: Hanging and Drowning
Post-mortem results revealed Yulia died from hanging, while her son Timur drowned.
“Detectives investigating are not seeking any other persons in connection with the deaths,” police confirmed.
Missing Persons Report and Ongoing Investigations
- Yulia and Timur had been reported missing the day before police found them, on 12 August.
- The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was notified as standard procedure.
- The case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which passed it back to local professional standards for investigation.
The inquest is due to take place at Poplar Coroners’ Court on Wednesday, 16 December.
