Armed Drama on Upper Lewes Road: Man Arrested After Standoff
Police rushed to a Brighton flat on Upper Lewes Road at 1.40pm on Monday (21 September) amid fears for a man’s safety. Firearms officers and a police helicopter swooped on the scene, sparking major drama.
Man Found on Nearby Road, Resists Arrest
Officers soon discovered the flat was empty, but tracked the man down on 1 Road. He was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm. The suspect fought back, leading to an arrest for assaulting a police officer.
A suspected firearm was later recovered from the flat. The officer injured in the scuffle suffered only minor wounds and is recovering. The man remains in police custody.
Road Reopened After Incident
Upper Lewes Road was shut during the police operation but has now reopened. Chief Inspector Roy Hodder thanked locals for their patience, saying: “We would like to thank the public for their patience while we worked to resolve the incident.”
