Luton Man Jailed for Stockpiling Explosives and Terror Docs
Filip Golon Bednarczyk, 26, from Luton, was slammed with a four-year jail sentence at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 24 November. He was convicted for possession of explosives under suspicious circumstances and hoarding terrorist manuals, breaching the Explosive Substance Act 1983 and Terrorism Act 2000.
Prison Time and Long-Term Supervision
Bednarczyk must serve four years behind bars, plus an additional year on licence. Once released, he faces a 15-year notification requirement, keeping him under close watch.
Police Praise Vigilance and Public Help
Commander Richard Smith of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command said, “I am very pleased with this sentence. Thanks to our officers’ vigilance, we caught Bednarczyk’s dangerous activities. He now faces substantial prison time.”
Smith urged the public to stay alert: “Every day national counter terrorism police fight threats. Police rely on tips from the public – report anything suspicious, online or offline.”
How the Plot Was Foiled
- Bednarczyk was nabbed at his home on 11 December 2019 after buying suspicious items online.
- Police raided his address, recovering guides on making gunpowder and C4 plastic explosives alongside bomb-making ingredients.
- No immediate terror threat was found, but the evidence proved criminal intent.
- He was charged on eight counts, pled guilty in May 2020, and was held until sentencing.
