New Counter Terrorism Hub to Boost UK Security
The government has backed a major new Counter Terrorism Operations Centre (CTOC) in London, promising a huge leap forward in the fight against terror. The move comes after the shocks of the 2017 attacks that claimed 36 lives and changed the UK’s threat landscape forever.
Top Brass Praise Game-Changing Centre
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick hailed the announcement, saying, “I am delighted that the government has confirmed it is committing funding for the creation of a new Counter Terrorism Operations Centre.”
She added how the 2017 attacks sparked a drive to rethink how agencies work:
“Following the dreadful attacks of 2017, I, along with the Director General of MI5, committed both our organisations to learn from those events and improve the way we work together to protect the public from terrorist threats. Bringing police closer with national security partners into a joint centre came directly from this learning.”
Since then, she said the Mayor of London, intelligence agencies, and government have collaborated to make this vision a reality.
Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, called the centre a “genuinely historic milestone”:
“Co-locating Counter Terrorism Policing with national security partners will boost our ability to protect the UK and its citizens. This project shows there are no party politics when it comes to public safety. Thanks to the government and the Mayor of London, the UK will now be a safer place.”
