Armed Cops Hit London’s Roads and Buses to Crush Terror Threats

The Met’s new RTPC Project Servator officers are stepping up big time. Expect to see them patrolling London’s roads, buses, bus stops, and transport hubs. They’ll carry out regular vehicle checks at key spots across the capital, and some will even work in CCTV control rooms keeping a close eye on suspicious activity.

High-Tech Back-Up Boosts Anti-Terror Efforts

These officers won’t work alone. They’ll be backed by top police tools like Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), firearms squads, and sniffer dogs. Together, they’re on the hunt to stop criminal and terrorist plots in their tracks.

Talking to the Public to Stay One Step Ahead

Project Servator officers will also chat with locals, business owners, and commuters – turning the public into watchdogs. “Don’t be surprised if you see us pop up,” warned Inspector James Beattie from Roads and Transport Policing Command. “It’s nothing to worry about. We want everyone to help keep London safe by reporting anything odd.”

Proven Success Against Crime and Terror

Since April 2018, the Met’s Project Servator teams have made over 1,000 arrests and gathered more than 2,000 intel tips on criminal activity. Now, this new team will add muscle to existing patrols at shopping centres, tourist hotspots, the Square Mile, and airports.

Inspector James Beattie said: “This is good news for travellers and bad news for terrorists. Our specially trained officers will make it tougher than ever for criminals and terrorists to operate on London’s transport network. It’s a team effort, and with the public’s help, we can make London safer.”
