Baby Hope Case: Two Women Cleared as Third Remains Under Investigation
Hampshire Police have dropped charges against two Portsmouth women arrested over the tragic death of Baby Hope. The newborn was found dead, wrapped in a blanket on the cobbles of Old Commercial Road, Portsmouth, on January 25, 2020.
Three Women Arrested in Murder Probe
- On May 12, 2020, three women from Portsmouth – aged 39, 21, and 20 – were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
- The 22-year-old and 39-year-old women are now facing no further action.
- The 21-year-old woman remains under active investigation by detectives.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Baker said: “This case has deeply upset the local community. Our officers are trained to handle such sensitive and complex investigations. We will do all we can to secure the right outcome.”
He added: “We cannot share further details at this stage, but when possible, we will update the public. Officers will be conducting enquiries locally today – if you have any information, please come forward.”
