Hostage Held for Ransom Over £600 Debt
Isleworth Crown Court heard how, on 22 March 2020, the victim was held hostage at a Burlington Gardens address after allegedly owing £600. The gang threatened his life and beat him, leaving bruises on his body and face.
Later the same day, the victim’s family started getting terrifying ransom calls demanding up to £1,000 for his release. The criminals even sent violent videos of the victim being assaulted to force payment. The family contacted the police, who launched a full investigation.
Investigation Led by Met Flying Squad
The Met Police’s Flying Squad tracked down the suspects using intelligence, call data, witness accounts, CCTV, and forensics. Officers recovered the victim’s phone and the one used for ransom demands during searches.
Detective Constable Glenn Peach said: “The fear and panic the victim and family endured won’t be forgotten. The false imprisonment, assault, and threats left deep scars. We hope justice brings some peace knowing these criminals are behind bars. Sentences reflect just how serious this crime was.”
King and Batson were also charged with false imprisonment but these charges will lie on file.
