Telford Man Jailed for Brutal Murder at Ketley Park
Robert Wieczorkowski, 32, from Hurleybrook Way, Telford, has been locked up for 18 years after being found guilty of stabbing Dawid Kurdziel to death.
The sentencing took place today (Thursday 19 May) at Stafford Crown Court. Wieczorkowski was convicted of murdering Kurdziel at Ketley Recreation Ground on 3 July 2021.
Drunken Attack with Broken Bottle
After a drinking session, Wieczorkowski smashed a glass bottle and plunged it into Kurdziel’s neck, causing fatal blood loss.
He fled the scene but was tracked down and arrested in Handsworth, Birmingham, on 14 August 2021 following a police appeal.
Despite denying the charge, Wieczorkowski was found guilty on Wednesday 11 May at Stafford Crown Court.
Detective Slams Lack of Remorse
“Robert Wieczorkowski has not shown any remorse for his horrendous act. He tried to dodge justice by running across the UK,” said Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse.
“He evaded capture for weeks before police caught him in Handsworth and arrested him swiftly.”
“Throughout the investigation, he claimed self-defence and denied intending to kill or seriously hurt Mr Kurdziel. The jury rejected this, and he will rightly serve a long prison sentence.”
“Thanks go to everyone who supported the police, especially the Polish community, whose vital information helped secure this conviction.”
“We also commend Dawid Kurdziel’s family for their quiet dignity in these difficult times. Our thoughts remain with them.”
