Warning Ignored as Couple Poses on Cracked Cliff Edge Near Seaford
Coastguard officials have blasted thrill-seekers risking their lives by posing for pictures dangerously close to a cracked chalk cliff near Seaford just days after a major collapse.
Despite clear warnings and new safety measures, a couple was spotted standing near the cliff’s edge right next to a massive crack – a drop so steep it shocked onlookers.

A small crowd gathered, gasping in disbelief as the couple ignored safety signs and roped-off zones. HM Coastguard said: “This was less than a week after warnings about the hazardous cliffs were published. Please stay at least 5 metres away from the edge.”
East Sussex County Councillor Claire Dowling urged visitors to respect the dangers. “The cliffs are extremely unstable with regular chalk falls. People must not underestimate the risks of standing on top or walking at the cliff base.”
She also warned about the incoming tide: “It’s easy to get trapped on the beach, so always check tide times before heading out.”

Matt Pavitt, HM Coastguard’s South East area commander, said: “The cliff tops are often unstable and can crumble in an instant, taking you with them. No selfie or photo is worth dying for – it could be your last.”
“If you spot anyone in danger, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately. Don’t try to rescue them yourself.”
