About 40 firefighters scrambled to a devastating house collapse in south London after a fire and explosion ripped through a terraced home on Galpin’s Road, Thornton Heath. Rescuers pulled a young child from the rubble and rushed them to a London hospital.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) deployed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Norbury, Mitcham, West Norwood, Woodside, and neighbouring stations. They arrived at the scene after receiving 13 frantic 999 calls, with the initial alert coming in at 7.08 a.m.
“A terraced house has collapsed as a result of an explosion,” LFB confirmed. The cause of the fire and explosion remains a mystery.
London Ambulance Service Issues Urgent Appeal
The London Ambulance Service is actively managing the incident and urged the public to reserve 999 calls for genuine medical emergencies. They advised using the 111 online service for other urgent health needs to keep lines clear for rescue efforts.
