Gunbattle Erupts Near Brixton O2 Academy
Stockwell Road and Benedict Road are shut both ways after a brutal gunfight erupted just yards from the Brixton O2 Academy in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Armed Police and Paramedics Rush to Scene
Shortly after 3am on November 27, armed officers from the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance paramedics were called following reports of a man being shot on Benedict Road near 1 Road.
Trident officers have sealed off a large crime scene. Dozens of 6mm bullets and casings litter the road, now covered with plastic bags by police to preserve evidence.
Damaged Cars and Manhunt Underway
- A black Mercedes with visible damage is parked inside the crime scene, with officers seen searching the vehicle thoroughly.
- A white BMW sits abandoned in the middle of Stockwell Road, windows blown out. The driver reportedly escaped after being shot multiple times during a chase following the initial shootout.
No arrests have been made. Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman and are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those involved.
Major Disruptions on Roads and Bus Routes
Several bus routes — including 2, 196, 322, 333, 345, and N2 — are impacted by the closures. Additional roadblocks are in place at Rumsey Road junction, likely to remain for some time as the investigation continues.
The Met Police have been approached for comment as officers comb through evidence in this serious incident.
