A driver was arrested following a dramatic police chase that kicked off just before midnight on Monday in New Addington. The chase ended in a devastating collision on Gravel Hill, Croydon, leaving multiple people injured and chaos in its wake.
Driver Tried to Ram Police – Serious Injuries Reported
The chase escalated when the suspect tried to ram police officers off-road. The driver, believed to be seriously injured, was treated at the scene by emergency crews. Paramedics, London Fire Brigade, and an air ambulance rushed to help those trapped in the wreckage.
Victims and Arrests
- A 39-year-old man in a Vauxhall Mokka suffered serious, potentially life-changing injuries and was rushed to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
- Two women from the fleeing BMW were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. Both suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Investigation and Road Closure
The crash site on Gravel Hill remains sealed off as Met Police’s “Catford” Traffic Garage conducts a full collision investigation. A spokesperson confirmed the chase began when a BMW took off from a marked police patrol on Kent Gate Way, Addington, before smashing into another vehicle moments later.
As standard procedure, the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct are looking into the incident.
