Brighton RNLI Lifeboats Race to Six Sea Emergencies in Just Four Days
Brighton’s RNLI lifeboat crews were slammed with a hectic weekend from July 11–14, tackling six separate coastal emergencies. Paddleboarders, swimmers, and jet ski users found themselves in trouble, reminding everyone just how dangerous the sea can be if you’re not prepared.
Friday Night Panic: Paddleboarders and Missing Swimmer
The drama kicked off at 7:30pm on Friday, July 11, when the inshore lifeboat responded to paddleboarders stranded 1.25 nautical miles offshore. The crew hauled the panicked group aboard and towed them safely back to land.
Later that night, volunteers launched a tense search for a swimmer missing for over 90 minutes near Brighton Palace Pier. His belongings were found abandoned, raising fears until he was eventually located safe and sound.
More Close Calls and Warnings
- Paddleboarders were spotted again on Saturday clinging to a buoy without lifejackets.
- Bloodied clothing discovered near the Brighton i360 sparked further alarm and urgent checks by lifeboat teams.
RNLI Issues Stark Warning: Respect the Sea or Risk Disaster
Charlie Dannreuther from Brighton RNLI hammered home the message: “Always check the weather and tide forecasts. Never head out alone. Wear lifejackets at all times.”
He urged the public to prepare properly and spread safety advice to prevent more incidents like this.
