No Action Against Lancashire Police Over Nicola Bulley Data Leak
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has decided not to take enforcement action against Lancashire Police after they disclosed Nicola Bulley’s personal information. Meanwhile, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has cleared the force of any wrongdoing in the tragic case.
NICOLA’S TRAGIC DISAPPEARANCE GRIPPED THE NATION
Nicola Bulley, a 45-year-old mum, vanished from St Michael’s on Wyre on January 27. Her disappearance sparked a massive search and a flood of armchair detective theories. Sadly, her body was found in the River Wyre three weeks later, on February 19.
IOPC FINDS “AREAS FOR LEARNING” BUT CLEARS POLICE
The IOPC’s investigation identified two “areas for learning” but gave Lancashire Police a clean bill of health in how they handled the case. The College of Policing will now review the police’s response and publish its findings this autumn.
PUBLIC SUPPORT OVERWHELMING, BUT POLICE CLEARED
Public concern for Nicola and her family ran high throughout the ordeal. However, both the IOPC and ICO have confirmed that Lancashire Police acted properly and within the law. The force insisted from the start they did everything possible to find Nicola and bring her home.
This outcome will be a huge relief for Lancashire Police, ending weeks of intense scrutiny over their actions in the heartbreaking case.
