Brothel Suspicions and Vandal Attacks Shut Down Grove Way Property
A property on The Grove Way has been hit with a tough premises closure order after a wave of shocking criminal damage and rumours it was running as a brothel.
Vandal Rampage Sparks Chaos in Neighbourhood
The leasehold home, rented out on short-term contracts, was vandalised repeatedly. Trouble flared on Tuesday, September 30, when black oil was flung across its windows and doors — splattering neighbouring houses too.
The attacks didn’t stop there. Red paint turned up on nearby homes and vehicles. Then, on Saturday, October 18, vandals smashed windows and doused more paint, leaving residents fuming.
Council and Police Shut Property Until 2026
Thanks to police support, Barkingside Magistrates Court approved a closure order banning the leaseholder, tenant, or anyone else from entering the property until January 29, 2026.
“This closure sends a clear message that we will not tolerate properties being used for criminal activities,” said Councillor Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety.
“The repeated criminal damage incidents caused significant distress to residents, and we acted swiftly with the police to put a stop to it.”
“We urge landlords to take their responsibilities seriously and carry out proper checks when letting properties, especially on short-term agreements.”
Landlords Warned: Don’t Let Crime Hide in Your Rentals
Barking and Dagenham Council is sounding the alarm to landlords. Short-term lets must be closely monitored to stop being exploited for illegal or immoral activities that wreck communities.
