Explosion of Violence in Kirkdale Early Hours
Just after 3:40am on Friday 9 January, officers rushed to a domestic disturbance in Kirkdale. But the suspect bolted on foot as soon as police arrived. During the brief pursuit, he allegedly aimed and fired a fake firearm at the pursuing officers.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Police quickly cornered and arrested the man. He now faces multiple charges: possession of an imitation firearm in public, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, and harassment.

Assistant Chief Constable Alex Goss said: “This was an extremely challenging incident for officers, but thankfully no one was injured and the suspect is now in custody.
“The officers initially believed the suspect had a real firearm and bravely pursued and arrested him.
“To the untrained eye, imitation guns or BB guns can provoke fear and cause serious harm. Using one against officers is unacceptable.
“Our police face dangerous situations every day and will not tolerate violence or aggression. Anyone crossing that line must expect to face justice.”
Police Call on Public to Help Fight Gun Crime
Goss called on residents to step up and back the police. He stressed that community info is crucial for nabbing offenders and clearing weapons off the streets.
“If you’re uneasy about contacting police directly, call the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111,” he added. “We need to know who’s involved in gun crime and where these weapons are kept.”
