Brutal Schoolboy Attack in Waltham Abbey Ends in Jail
A man has been locked up for a savage assault on a schoolboy near shops in Hillhouse, Waltham Abbey. Just before 8pm on Wednesday, 11 June last year, Collins Mufuta targeted the teenager, who was walking with friends. Mufuta shouted at the boy before landing punch after punch.
Chase, Stabbing & Frightening Escape
The boy tried to flee, but Mufuta caught him and kept on beating him. In a shocking twist, Mufuta stabbed the teen in the leg before making off. The wound to the youngster’s thigh was serious but, thankfully, not life-threatening.
Caught on CCTV and Forensics Nail Offender
Police launched a full probe. Despite Mufuta trying to hide his face, detectives used detailed CCTV footage along with forensic and digital clues to ID the 22-year-old drifter with no fixed address. Key details, including his clothes, helped pin him down and led to his arrest in Waltham Abbey the next month.
From Denial to Guilty Plea in Court
Mufuta stayed silent after arrest and initially denied the charges. But faced with overwhelming evidence, he admitted guilt at Chelmsford Crown Court in December. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in public.
On Monday, 19 January, Mufuta was slammed with a five-year and nine-month jail sentence.
