Shocking Assault Rocks Saffron Walden
A terrifying attack unfolded in Saffron Walden on the night of March 31, 2023. The victim, staying with 47-year-old Danny Chandler from Whittlesey Road, was savagely beaten. She suffered serious wounds to her head, face, stomach, and leg in a brutal assault.
Failed SOS Call Leads to Quick Arrest
When the woman tried to use her phone’s SOS function to call for help, Chandler ripped it from her hand. She tried to escape but was dragged back and viciously attacked again. Although the emergency SOS call was cut short, it briefly connected with police, who traced Chandler to the hotel and arrested him swiftly. He has remained in custody ever since.
Justice Served at Chelmsford Crown Court
Chandler admitted guilt to actual bodily harm and possession of a Class A drug. On September 5, 2025, a jury found him guilty of false imprisonment. On January 29, 2026, he was handed an extended prison sentence of six years and six months, plus three years on licence. He also faces a £228 victim surcharge.
Officers applauded the victim’s courage for helping bring Chandler to justice, calling her bravery “inspirational.”
