A fake therapist from Brighton has been locked up for 11 years after sexually assaulting a vulnerable client during so-called “therapy” sessions.

Gerald Peck’s Sickening Abuse

Gerald Peck, 77, of York Villas, Brighton, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court for two counts of assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault.

Peck billed himself as a private body and energy therapist. He targeted a woman in her 40s who sought his help for depression and physical pain.

During sessions, Peck insisted skin-to-skin contact was “necessary” and lied that intimate touching and penetration were part of a legitimate therapy designed to relieve trauma and tension.

Position of Trust Exploited

By disguising his actions as therapy, Peck grossly violated professional boundaries, abusing the trust of his client. The court described his behaviour as inappropriate, abusive, and far beyond anything acceptable in therapy.

After his arrest and trial, a jury at Lewes Crown Court found Peck guilty of all five sexual offence charges on 4 February. He returned to court on 12 March and received an 11-year prison sentence alongside a restraining order.

Peck must also pay his victim £9,730 in compensation for therapy costs within 10 months.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery

“The victim’s courage and determination were central to securing justice,” said Detective Constable Jazz Gannon of Sussex Police.

“This case highlights the critical need for clear and ethical boundaries between therapists and clients.”

The police hope this conviction encourages other victims of sexual violence to speak out and seek help.

If you have been affected by sexual violence, report it online, call 101, or dial 999 in an emergency. Support services are available for anyone in need.
