A convicted killer serving life has been handed an extra four years after a savage stabbing attack on a prison officer at HMP Whitemoor.

Horrific Stabbing in Prison

Moustapha Dia, 28, launched a brutal surprise assault on a guard while locking up at the high-security Cambridgeshire prison on 19 October 2024. Whispering first, Dia then slammed the officer into a headlock and stabbed him repeatedly in the head, neck, and face with a plastic knife.

The attack only stopped when other officers rushed in and pinned Dia down.

Officer Rushed to Hospital

The victim was taken straight to Peterborough City Hospital, where he was treated for concussion and numerous cuts. Dia was already serving life for murdering his sister-in-law.

Guilty Verdict and Extra Jail Time

Despite denying the charges, Dia was found guilty in January at Huntingdon court for possession of an offensive weapon inside prison and wounding with intent.

In March, he was slapped with an additional four-year sentence, added to his life term.

“This ferocious and cowardly attack targeted an officer smaller in stature,” said Detective Constable Emma Purser. “Prison staff face tough challenges daily, and this assault will no doubt leave lasting psychological scars. Dia intended far worse harm than the injuries suffered.”

HMP Whitemoor – Holding England’s Deadliest

HMP Whitemoor is home to some of the most dangerous criminals in the country. Dia’s hefty extra sentence shows just how seriously the justice system takes attacks on prison staff carrying out routine duties.
