Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters battled a fierce blaze at a warehouse on St Thomas Road, Belvedere.
Half the Warehouse Ravaged by Flames
Half of the single-storey warehouse was left badly damaged. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
Firefighters Stay On Scene as Smoke Lingers
Station Commander Lee McCauley said: “Crews made steady progress at the scene of the fire to bring it under control. A small part of the warehouse remains alight, and crews will stay at the scene into the evening.”
He added: “There are multiple road closures in place nearby, which are likely to cause disruption for hours. The fire is producing some smoke, so we urge people to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you live or work nearby.”
Massive Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Brigade deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder as an observation tower, giving commanders a crucial vantage point to tackle the blaze.
Control Officers received the first call at 2:17pm and swiftly dispatched crews from Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Greenwich, Sidcup, and nearby stations. The fire was brought under control by 6:08pm.
The Fire Investigation Unit will now probe the cause of the devastating fire.
