Dog Attack Leaves Man Injured
Armed officers were called to Hillside, Southport, around 10.45am today after reports of two loose dogs on Lynton Road. During the chaos, a man in his 30s was attacked, suffering injuries to his stomach and arm. He is now in the hospital, receiving treatment, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Second Man Escapes Unhurt
A second man, believed to be in his 70s, was aggressively approached by the dogs but managed to escape without injury. The incident caused panic among residents on the street.
Armed Police Shoot One Dog, Seize Another
Specialist dog handlers arrived alongside armed officers to control the situation. To prevent further harm, one dog was fatally shot at the scene after police discharged a firearm. The second dog was seized by dog patrol officers. Merseyside Police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Residents Report Hearing Gunshots
Locals described hearing gunshots as the officers cornered the dog. One resident said, “I heard two shots fired.” Another, Paul Taylor, reported, “Loads of police turned up, including armed police. A policewoman shouted at me to get inside and shut the doors.” Kath Moore, 78, added, “There were loads of police on the street. They told me to get inside.”
Ongoing Investigation
A police cordon remains on Lynton Road with forensic officers on site. Merseyside Police confirmed no arrests have been made so far. They are urging anyone with information to contact them via their social media channels on X or Facebook @MerPolCC.
