Smash on Devizes Road
On August 17, 2024, a Honda Civic careered off Devizes Road in Salisbury and smashed into a wall, leaving the front end wrecked. Police arrived at the scene to find the driver still behind the wheel.
Driver Over the Limit
Warren Barrett, 22, from Bemerton Heath, immediately raised suspicions. A roadside breath test revealed he blew 42 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath – well over the legal limit of 35.
Judge Slams Boozy Driver with Tough Penalty
Barrett pleaded guilty to drink driving. On April 2, Salisbury Magistrates’ Court handed him a 14-month driving ban and a £747 fine. He also faces a £299 victim surcharge and £200 in court costs.
PC McColm from Salisbury warned: “Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences. Anyone who chooses to drink and drive must be ready to lose their licence for a long time. It’s a selfish act that puts lives at risk – and Barrett put himself and the public in serious danger.”
